Now that I've learned a bit more, I thought I should revisit this post with something I've realized. One area that motherboards have a serious impact on, aside from over clocking, is boot time. My build with an SSD running windows 8.1 probably takes 15-20 seconds to get through the "Asus" splash screen, but less than 5 to load the operating system itself. The newer Asus motherboards promise less than two seconds before the system boot begins.
